A Brief History

Innies and Outties made its web debut February 14th, 2000. It is my third comic strip. The first two were Strange News, which ran from 1992 until 1996 in the University of Houston's The Daily Cougar, and Extra Pepperoni, which had a short run in late 1996 and was based on my experiences working as a pizza delivery driver. Ins and Outs was on the drawing board for three years and was originally about a group of eclectic college students who gathered at a pub, the inspiration of which was The Mucky Duck. The title referred to Houston's 610 loop with their being two types of people: Inner- and Outer-loopers. At the suggestion of a friend, Innies and Outties became the working title. Upon graduating from animation school in September, 1999, I applied at various animation houses without success and began Innies and Outties as a means of keeping up my drawing skills and putting my BA in English to good use. Recycling two characters from Strange News, Scott and Kimmie, I regressed the couple 13 years in age and gave them different names and more fleshed-out personalities. Thus, Otis and Iris.
